A review of the EnGenius SN-920 by a user, 1/15/2001
I simply walked into Office Depot and bought a 920. The price for the phone was $349, and the price for the outdoor antenna was $99. Together and with tax, this comes out to a total of $472.10. This is a lot of money for a cordless phone when you can buy a top-of-the-line 2.4 gigahertz phone for one third this amount.

You can pay less for the EnGenius. Retailers on the web sell for about $60 less--do a search on "EnGenius 920" and you'll find two hundred e-tailers hawking the phone. If you order online you will pay shipping, but you can avoid sales tax. Also, the going price for a new EnGenius SN-920 on ebay in January 2001 was about $290.
I chose to buy mine at Office Depot and pay more so that returning the phone would be easy if it did not live up to the manufacturer's claims. Interestingly, someone else had done the same thing, because the first phone Office Depot sold me was actually an "open box" which they had carefully repackaged (taped shut plastic bags, etc.) so as to appear new--a rather slimy practice. I complained, and they exchanged it for one which they assured me was unopened. However, that box had no outer wrap, and looked as if it had been fiddled with too. My take on this situation was that someone had bought these phones based on the manufacturer's advertised claims, then returned them when the phone didn't live up to those claims. A grim first sign.
However, I went ahead and took the phone home and hooked it up.
